Ben attended two high schools… from his freshman up until the latter part of his senior year he attended at the Del Pilar Academy, Imus, Cavite, Philippines, and transferred to Lodi High School, Lodi, California where he graduated early in October 1978. He enlisted in the United States Navy for the Advanced Electronics Field and graduated from Boot Camp at Recruit Training Center San Diego, California in December 1978. He completed Basic Electricity and Electronics School in Naval Training Center San Diego, California and upon completion, he entered advanced Electronics Technician Class “A” School at Naval Training Center Great Lakes, Illinois where he graduated 3rd in his class on November 1979. He then completed Cryptological Equipment Schools at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas in December 1979.
His 1st tour of duty was an Electronics Technician and Technical Controller at Naval Telecommunications Station Subic/Cubi, Philippines and the Anti-Submarine Communications Detachment Cubi Point, Philippines in January 1980. His 2nd tour of duty was at Port Operations, Naval Station Guam as an Electronics Shop Work Center Supervisor in February 1983. His 3rd tour of duty was as Leading Petty Officer, Communications Repair Work Centers, onboard the aircraft carrier USS KITTY HAWK stationed at San Diego in March 1985, were he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Pin. His 4th tour of duty was Maintenance Material Management Systems Coordinator at Naval Communications Area Master Stations Guam in January 1987. His 5th tour of duty was Ground Electronics Maintenance Officer at Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan in June 1989 where he was selected as the 1990 Sailor of the Year and promoted to Chief Petty Officer. He was also the 1989 President of the Atsugi Communications Association and 1990 President of the Atsugi FIL-AM Association. His 6th and final duty as an enlisted person was Leading Chief Petty Officer, Combat Systems Electronics Division, onboard the amphibious assault carrier USS BELLEAU WOOD stationed at Sasebo, Japan in August 1992 were he was selected for commissioning as a Naval Officer because of his sustained superior performance at sea and ashore.
He attended “Mustang University” at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida in October 1995 after being commissioned as an Ensign onboard the USS BELLEAU WOOD. Upon graduation, he attended Electronics Material Officer School at Advance Electronics School Division, San Diego, California in November 1995. His 1st assignment as a Naval Officer and 7th tour of duty was as the Electronics Material Officer onboard the destroyer USS O’BRIEN stationed at Yokosuka, Japan in December 1995 where he earned his Surface Warfare Officer Pin. His 8th tour of duty was Training Liaison Officer, Afloat Training Group Western Pacific, Yokosuka, Japan in July 1999. His 9th tour of duty was on the Admiral’s staff as Commander Carrier Group FIVE’s Flag Logistician and Combat Systems Officer. His 10th tour of duty was Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Europe Central’s N9 Department Head/ Satellite Communications Officer/Officer in Charge of Naval Satellite Communications Facility, Lago di Patria, Italy in October 2002. His 11th tour of duty was Combat Systems Maintenance Officer, onboard the aircraft carrier USS KITTY HAWK stationed at Yokosuka, Japan in May 2004. He is currently serving his 12th tour of duty as Naval Computers and Telecommunications Station Far East, Yokosuka, Japan’s N6 Department Head/Electronics Material Officer since July 2006.
Ben holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Management and an Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies from the University of Maryland. Some of his personal awards include Navy Commendation Medals, Navy Achievement Medals, Battle Efficiency Awards, and Humanitarian Service Medals. He enjoys driving warships, stamp collecting, golfing, paint-balling, and traveling throughout the world.
