Vicky was born on June 6, 1961 in Dulong Bayan, Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines.
Her Tita Mrs. Anita Francisco-Rodriguez was the biggest influence in her
decision to attend high school at Del Pilar Academy. After graduating from
DELPA in 1978, Vicky attended Philippine Women’s University from 1978-1982.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition degree. She passed
the PRC board on the same year to be recognized as a Registered Nutritionist-
Dietitian of the Philippines.
In August 1989, Vicky left the county and migrated to the United States to join
her family. At that time, the American Dietetics Association did not recognize her
Philippines RD license. She had to work in the Skilled Nursing Facilities as a
Salad/Baker position. While working, Vicky attended City of Long Beach
Community College and earned a Certificate as Food Service Supervisor. She
then got promoted to handle the 99- bed Skilled Nursing Facility Food Service
Department in Park Vista, Fullerton. She continued her study to become a
Dietary Technician (second level before RD position here in the US). Half way of
her finishing up her Dietary Technician course, a reciprocity program agreement
between the ADA (American Dietetics Association) and the PRC (Philippines
Regulation Commission) was approved. An organization named as UFANDA
(United Filipino-American Nutritionist-Dietitian Association) was organized to
handle and assist all Filipino RD in processing applications and requirements in
taking the US Board RD Examination. She has been a member of this
organization and aiming to continue to help and assist fellow RD’s.
In 1996, she got married to Clem Adeva. They have 2 beautiful children namely:
Clemson (10 years old) and Vienne (5 years old). Vicky and her family live in
Long Beach, California.
In July of 1998, she passed the reciprocity ADA RD examination. Being on the
field of Food Service for twelve years, Vicky decided to get experience and try
another field in Nutrition that is Community Services. In the same year, she
accepted a position as a Public Health Nutritionist I with the City of Long Beach-
DHHS-Nutrition Services Division-WIC Program. She was promoted as one of the
6 members Operational Coordinating Team that overseas the 6 WIC clinics all
over Long Beach. Being at WIC, Vicky got exposed and motivated to the benefit
of breastfeeding. She was selected to receive a scholarship grant from the
California WIC Branch to take the 9 months course as Lactation Consultant in
University of California, San Diego. She passed the International Board of
Lactation Consultant Examiners last July 2005. Vicky has been with the City of
Long Beach- WIC Program for more than 8 years and with God’s willing wishes
to retire in the same field of endeavor. At WIC she felt that she had finally found
a home where her heart sings and feel at peace working. Serving WIC
participants day in and out gives her a sense of self-fulfillment.
Her main goal in life is to successfully raise her children with good moral values,
good hearts, and have them attain whatever endeavor in life they desire.
Her personal wish is to be financially independent and to have enough time to
go travel, visit all tourist spot in the Philippines and around the world, and to see
and meet long lost friends, former classmates and relatives.
Vicky’s Motto: Life is too short! Live it as if it’s your last day! It’s not the things
you get but the heart you touch that will determine your success in life!
