CHIEF PETTY OFFICER JESSIE BARROSO, UNITED STATES NAVY (RETIRED)

Upon graduation from the Del Pilar Academy in 1978, Jessie attended the Far
Eastern University in Manila from 1978 to 1982 taking Electrical Engineering… but
concentrated on “chicks” most of the time.  In February 1986, he was recruited by
the United States Navy in Subic Bay Naval Base, Philippines.  From there, he went
to Boot Camp at Naval Training Center, Recruit Training Command, San Diego,
California.

Jessie’s 1st tour of duty was on board the USS WABASH (AOR-5) stationed in
Long Beach, California from 1986 to 1989.  He quickly advanced to Boatswain
Mate Third Class Petty Officer.  His duties on the ship included Helicopter Landing
Safety Duties Petty Officer and Flight Deck Safety Petty Officer.

His 2nd tour of duty was at Special Boat Unit 12 located in the Naval Amphibious
Base, Coronado California from 1989 to 1992.  He was advanced to Boatswain
Mate Second Class Petty Officer and earned the prestigious Small Boat Pin while
serving as the Boat Coxswain for Fast Boats during the first Gulf War.

His 3rd tour of duty was at Transient Personnel Unit, San Diego, California from
1992 to 1995 where he was the Leading Petty Officer for the unit.

His 4th tour of duty was on board the USS TARAWA (LHA-1) stationed in San
Diego, California from 1995 to 1999 were he was assigned as Deck Department’s
Leading Petty Officer, advanced to  Boatswain Mate First Class Petty Officer, and
earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist
pin – a major milestone in a Sailor’s career.

His 5th tour of duty was at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific located in
the Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, California from 1999 to 2002.  He earned
his Master Training Specialist designator due to his outstanding performance as a
Navy Instructor.  Because of his sustained superior performance, he was selected
as a Chief Petty Officer.

His 6th and final tour was at Mobile Security Squadron Three located at Naval Air
Station, North Island, California from 2002 to 2006.  He was assigned as the Force
Protection Officer and Tactical Supervisor for Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection
Missions, and was deployed to Iraq twice during his tour.

Jessie honorably retired from the United States Naval Service in July 2006.

He is currently residing in Imus, Cavite, Philippines… And he is still SEEKING... For
what - he still does not know.
